Pendant lighting provides many of the decorative benefits of lighting and is very easy to use. If the pendant light is hung correctly, it should be located approximately 3 feet above a table or chair. If the chandelier is too close to the table or chairs, problems can occur. This is when you shorten the cord on the pendant light. Shortening the chandelier light cord is a very simple operation.
1、Shut off the power before working
It is important to turn off the circuit breaker that controls the light circuit. A live wire is very dangerous, so turn off the power to the chandelier before shortening it. If you do not know the switch of the circuit that will be dealt with, then turn off the power of the entire home to ensure safety.
2、Remove the pendant light cord
Remove the nut on the screw collar that holds the canopy to the ceiling. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the canopy from the electrical box on the ceiling. Removing the canopy will expose the wires in the ceiling. At this point you can unscrew the wire cap and untie the wires, remove the chandelier and place it on the table.
3、Adjust the length of the light rope
Measure the length that needs to be shortened according to your needs so that it is short enough for your purpose. Cut off the excess at the end with wire cutters, then use wire strippers or a hobby knife to peel off half an inch of plastic insulation from the end of each strand. Be ready to reinstall the clamps.
4、Install the shortened pendant light
Use pliers to screw the wires back into the top canopy electrical box. Link the wires of the pendant light again according to the wiring method before disassembly. Also tighten the wire connector removed when disconnecting the fixture.
5、Finish the installation test
Attach the canopy back to the electrical box and secure it with the screws you removed when you removed the light. Before letting the light hang free, pull the chain slightly to make sure it is secure. Turn on the circuit breaker and test the pendant light to see if it works properly.
